Pandya to Replace Sharma on the BCCI Sacks Selection Committee
As the Board of Control of Cricket in India undergoes major changes, Hardik Pandya, India’s all-rounder is likely to take over Rohit Sharma as captain of T20I.
Reports claim that the entire BCCI selection panel, headed by Chetan Sharma (a former cricketer), has been sacked following India’s failures in major ICC major tournaments. BCCI is inviting new applications to fill the five-person selection panel. This committee was formed in an effort to revitalize Indian cricket following a disappointing performance at the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Recently, the Indian Board saw a significant change with Roger Binny replacing Sourav Ganguly. The BCCI will see major changes under Binny’s leadership, including the removal of Rohit Sharma from his role as captain for T20I.
After Team India’s semifinal exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharman’s performance as captain in the shortest format has been questioned. Experts in cricket have not been impressed with Rohit Sharman’s captaincy in the short format of the game as India failed to perform in the mega-event. Hardik Pandya, who led the Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League title (IPL), is considered the best candidate for the role. Pandya was already named as the T20I captain against New Zealand, and it is likely that he will continue the role when India prepares for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
